PhD (Computer Science)

Offered Every Semester

PhD is the highest degree awarded in an academic discipline and is the most rewarding educational experience. In our PhD programme, students work closely with a faculty member performing original research on challenging, unsolved problems.

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • MPhil in Computer Science (or computing-related discipline) OR 18-year MS in Computer Science from an HEC recognized university.
  • Must pass the departmental admission test and interview.
  • Research statement / proposal meeting supervisor guidelines.

MPhil (Computer Science)

Fall Semester

The objective of the M.Phil Computer Science programme is to train students to initiate rigorous research work.

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • 4-year BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology (16 years of education).
  • Must pass the departmental subject entrance test and interview.

Part-time evening programme for professionals designed to bridge computational techniques with human information interaction.

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • 4-year BS or MSc in computing disciplines, or non-computing terminal degree with required prerequisite deficiencies.
  • Passing score in the departmental admission test and interview.

MS (Data Science)

Spring Semester

Advanced degree preparing students for modern data engineering, machine learning, and scalable big data analytics.

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • 4-year BS in CS/SE/IT or relevant quantitative discipline (16 years of education).
  • Must pass the departmental admission test and interview.

BS (Computer Science)

Fall Semester

Four-year undergraduate programme accredited by NCEAC, providing a solid foundation in computer science and specialized elective focus areas.

Minimum Admission Requirements:
  • Intermediate (F.Sc / ICS / A-Level or equivalent) with Mathematics with minimum 50% marks as per QAU eligibility rules.
  • Admissions are processed centralized through Quaid-i-Azam University's main admission portal.

Admissions & Academic FAQs

Admissions open in Fall semester for every academic year.

PhD Admissions are announced twice in a year (Spring and Fall semesters).

Admissions for the MS (IST) evening programme are usually announced in the Spring semester each academic year.

Admissions for MS (Data Science) are announced in the Spring semester.

MSc/ BS (4 years) in CS/SE/IT from the HEC recognized university.

PhD admission test is a subjective type test, based on core areas of Computer Science. The test is designed to evaluate the knowledge of the applicant in Computer Science core subject areas. The format is similar to our MPhil test (sample provided here), but is expected to be more rigorous.

Students must have completed 16 years of education, either BS (4 years) or MSc in computing related disciplines with experience in digital information management. Candidates must also pass the test and interview arranged by the department.

BS or MSc (16 years of education) in computing related disciplines OR BS/MSc in non-computing disciplines having studied at least two mathematics-related courses and one statistics-related course in their terminal degree. Non-computing graduates must pass deficiency courses if not already studied.

Duration of admission PhD admission test is 120 – 180 minutes.

Yes, MS (IST) is an evening programme designed for working professionals. Classes are held in the evening after 5:00 PM.

Minimum duration of PhD studies is 3-years whereas maximum is 7-years.

MPhil is a two-year program of 50 credit hours, 24 credit hours are assigned for the course work and 26 credit hours are dedicated for research work.
