Electricity, Magnetism and Thermal Physics (Lab)

Theory: 0 Cr. Hrs Lab: 1 Cr. Hr Total: 1 Cr. Hrs
Objectives: Laboratory experiments covering Coulomb's Law, magnetic fields, capacitance, Millikan oil drop, RLC circuits, and gas laws.

Contents: 1. Coulomb's Law Experiment. Verification of the Inverse Square Law, Force/Charge Relationship and determination of Coulomb's Constant. 2. To measure potential around a charged sphere. To find the field lines and equipotential surfaces. 3. Variable, parallel plate capacitor to quantitatively investigate of the Q=CV relationship. 4. To determine dielectric constant of different materials. 5. Measuring the magnetic field of a straight conductor and of circular conductor loops as a function of current, distance, and loop radius. 6. Measurement of the charge of an electron: Millikan Oil Drop experiment. 7. To draw frequency response curve of RLC series and parallel circuits and determine resonance frequency bandwidth, quality factor and selectivity. 8. Electrical Equivalent of Heat, to determine the efficiency of a light bulb. 9. Investigation of Ideal Gas Law, Boyle's Law, and Gay-Lussac's Law.
