(GE) General Education Theory: 3 Cr. Hrs Total: 3 Cr. Hrs
Objectives: Developing essential English language, vocabulary, sentence construction, reading comprehension, and paragraph writing skills for undergraduate students.

Contents: 1. Introduction to Dictionary Use: Pronunciation, syllables, spelling, etymology, derivation, meaning, word categories, usage, synonyms & antonyms. 2. Vocabulary Building: Word formation (prefix/suffix), roots, context clues. 3. Parts of Speech: Conversions (verbs/nouns/adjectives/adverbs). 4. Coordinate & subordinate conjunctions. 5. Introduction to Articles. 6. Sentence Structure: Phrase, clause, sentence types. 7. Forms and Functions: Affirmative, negative, interrogative sentences, modal auxiliaries. 8. Basic Oral Communication Skills: Listening, speaking, expressing ideas, discussions. 9. Basic Reading Skills: Skimming, scanning, main idea, topic sentence, inference. 10. Cohesive Devices: Pronouns, conjunctions, repetition, synonyms. 11. Basic Writing Skills: Guided writing, summarizing, paragraph writing, note taking/making.
