ICT and Society

Objectives: Main objectives of the course is to examine the relationship between ICT, and society and social behavior so that students are able to develop ICT solutions by taking into account its societal implications. Based on computing professionals code of conduct and ethics the course orients students towards professional practices.

Contents: Characteristics of information and communications technology specifically the computer-based systems; end-user computing; cyberspace applications for individuals and social groups: life, work, leisure, and interactions. Implications and effects of ICT on society, and the responsibilities of ICT professionals. Social issues: introduction to sociology, various sociological perspectives, social life organization, social inequality, social institutions, changing society, security, privacy and accountability. Moral, ethical, and legal issues in ICT profession, and the legal and ethical responsibilities of professionals. Lessons from history.
