Computer Graphics

(DE) Domain Elective Theory: 3 Cr. Hrs Total: 3 Cr. Hrs
Objectives: Main objective of the course is to familiarize students with basic computer graphics pipeline and processing within each block of the pipeline using OpenGL. Students will be able to implement different graphics techniques to create animation of realistic looking images and videos commonly used in movies, games, television commercials.

Contents: An overview of Computer Graphics Applications, API's, Graphics Pipeline, Display Technologies: CRT Displays, Raster Scan Displays, Raster Algorithms: Line Drawing, Midpoint Algorithms(Line Drawing Circle Drawing, Ellipse, Parabola), Barycentric coordinates, Triangle drawing using barycentric coordinates, Polygon filling algorithms: Polygon Boundary Fill Flood Fill Scanline Fill, Drawing using OpenGl, Geometric Transformations: 2D and 3D transformations, Translation, Rotation, Scaling, Homogeneous Coordinates, Concatenation of Transformations, Transformations in OpenGL, Viewing: Projections, Orthographic Projection, Perspective Projection, Projections in OpenGL, Clipping (Point, line, polygon clipping algorithms), Visible Surface Finding, Hidden surface removal, z-buffer, BSP Tree, Lighting: Point Light Source, Ambient, Diffuse (Lambertian) and Specular Shading Models, Phong Shading, OpenGL lighting model, Texture Mapping: 2D Texture Mapping, Examples, Aliasing issues, Interpolation, Bump mapping, Displacement mapping, Full Graphics Pipeline, Ray Tracing Algorithms.
