Database Systems

Theory: 3 Cr. Hrs Total: 3 Cr. Hrs
Objectives: Main objectives of the course is to provide an introduction for the fundamental design of a database system and database management system. Students learn the data modeling for different levels (conceptual, logical and physical) of database systems. Alongside the guides the students will be able to manage the databases within the database management system software.

Contents: Overview of Database and Database System; Importance of Database Management System (DBMS) Software in a Database System; Generic Software Architecture of DBMS; Examples of DBMS software; Explanation of Information System Life Cycle; Conceptual Database Designing: Entity Relationship Diagram; Enhanced Entity Relationship Diagram; Logical Database Design: Relational Logical Model Concepts; Rules for converting EERD into Logical Relational Model; Normalization; Physical Database Design; Query by Example; Introduction to Relational Algebra, Structured Query Language, Indexing Structures; Database Connectivity.
