Analysis and Design for Software Systems

Objectives: Main objective of the course is to provide necessary background to undertake software development projects by thoroughly analysing the needs and designing a robust system. The course focuses on eliciting, analysing, understanding and communicating software requirements, and design with an emphasis of verification from early stages of software development. Students will acquire skills in the analysis and design of software development projects.

Contents: Software Development Process; Software Life cycle Models; Problem analysis using a case study; Requirements Gathering and Definition; Modelling/ Description of Requirements; Introduction to Structured Analysis; Documentation of Structured Analysis: Data Flow Diagrams (DFD); Creating DFDs and Data Dictionary. Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), Requirements Specification, Verification of Requirements. Structured Design: Creating Structure Chart. Design Review; Formal Technical Reviews and Design Inspections. Documentation of structured design. OO Basics; Introduction to Object Oriented Analysis and Design; OO Analysis UML way. UML Diagrams for OO Analysis; Case Study of OO Analysis using UML; OO Design. Documentation of OO Design.
