Human Computer Interaction

Objectives: Main objectives of the course is to provide an understanding in designing usable interactive systems. Students will learn human-centred design skills and key approaches for developing interactive systems to meet human needs. Students will have hands on experience of techniques for rapidly prototyping and evaluating multiple interaction design alternatives.

Contents: Key HCI Concepts and Usability Issues; Human Information Processing; Input/Output Devices for Interaction; Basics of Interaction, Psychology of Interaction, Models of Interaction; Basics of Design, Interaction Design, and User Experience Design. User Centred Design, Task Analysis, Task Description, Task Centred Design; Prototyping in Design of Interactive Systems. Evaluation of Design by Users. Internet/Web Technology as an Interactive System; Selection of Appropriate Digital Media for Interaction; Interface Styles (Modes of Interaction) and their merits and demerits. Usability Testing and Evaluation of Interactive Systems; Interaction Design for new emerging environments.
