Introduction to Computing

(CC) Computing Core Theory: 2 Cr. Hrs Lab: 1 Cr. Hr Total: 3 Cr. Hrs
Objectives: Main objective of the course is to make students computer and information literate. Students will get an exposure of solving problems using computers (programming). Students will learn essential skills associated with the effective use of computer, internet and web.

Contents: Introduction to ICT; Computer Hardware and Software; How Computer Works; Introduction to Personal Computing, Networks, Internet, and Web. How Internet & Web works; Basic Word Processing: Creating an effective document; Web Page Creation; Creating Effective Web presence; Creating an effective presentation; Manipulating, analyzing and plotting data using spread sheet software; Spread sheet Concepts: Formulas, Charts; Use of Search Engine(s). Identifying and expressing Information Needs; Searching and collecting information; Security and Privacy; Managing and keeping information secure. Tasks and Algorithms in Everyday life; Simple mathematical problems; Writing Algorithms for simple problems; Representing Algorithms (PDL, Pseudocode, Flowcharts); Examples of Representing Algorithms; Fundamental of Programming; Basic Programming Constructs; Elementary Structured Programming.
